About UsEveryone at Braintcroft has joined in with the garden, from planting seeds to maintaining the crops. 12 children in year 4 and 5 have formed the "Gardening Club", led by Marianna Kiss. Marianna is a parent of a child in one of our Reception classes and has provided invaluable advice, support and hard work. Without her help, alongside many other parents, the project would not have got started. The Gardening Club meet every Tuesday lunchtime to do their best to ensure that the plants are thriving and to continue the constant battle against weeds. |

The Year 3 Project
The children and staff in year 3 have made an even bigger effort. They have been studying plant growth in more detail as part of their curriculum so have taken on a bigger challenge. Growing tomatoes, courgettes and strawberries involves meticulous care of the young plants from their time in seed trays to eventually transferring them to the garden. You don't have to take my word for it - here is some work from some year 3 children who will tell you all about what they have been learning from the garden this term. In year three we have been learning about plants. 3M have been growing tomato plants and here are of some of the things we did. First we got some tomato seeds and we put them in the plant tray. Next we got some compost, put it in the tray and then we put the plant tray on the window sill. We put it on the window sill so that the bright sun will make it grow tall. We had to water them everyday otherwise they will go dry and die. When they got taller we put them in the big plant trays because the plants needed more space to grow. Then we went on a trip to an allotment to visit Mr Francis and talk about how to grow plants. When we were leaving Mr Francis gave us some plants which he said would attract bees to make our tomato plants grow more tomatoes. So the next day we planted our plants in the plot at school. We made little holes in the soil to put the plants in making sure there is room for our tomato plants. We will plant these later. We enjoy watering the tomato plant and watching them grow. When they grow tall we will eat the tomatoes. We are really looking forward eating them.
